Non-Discrimination & Harassment
Western is committed to providing a learning and
working environment that is free of harassment and
discrimination. All students, staff and faculty have a
role in this commitment and have a responsibility to
ensure and promote a safe and respectful learning and
working environment in their interactions with other
community members.
There shall be no harassment or sexual harassment
exercised against, or by, any employee. Harassment
means engaging in a course of vexatious comment
or conduct that is known, or ought reasonably to
be known, to be unwelcome. Harassment may be
related to one or more of the prohibited grounds
of discrimination and includes sexual harassment,
personal harassment, and workplace harassment.
Harassment is a serious offence that may be cause for
disciplinary sanctions including dismissal.
Sexual Harassment Means:
A) Engaging in a course of vexatious comment or
conduct because of sex, sexual orientation, gender
identity or gender expression, where the course of
comment or conduct is known, or ought reasonably
to be known, to be unwelcome and/or
B) Making a sexual solicitation or advance where
the person making the solicitation or advance is
in a position to confer, grant, or deny a benefit Discrimination:
or advancement to the individual and the person
knows, or ought reasonably to know, that the Discrimination is the unfair or prejudicial treatment of
solicitation or advance is unwelcome. people and groups based on characteristics such as
race, gender, age or sexual orientation.
Personal Harassment includes conduct and/
or behaviours which create an intimidating, Equity and Human Rights Services (EHRS)
